Nothing on this page is a finished design. These are the intentions guiding the work — they will be tested, changed and documented in the journal.

A Greek–Nordic conversation
Cycladic building traditions meeting Nordic restraint: thick walls and deep shade on one side, calm surfaces and daylight discipline on the other.

Indoor life flowing into outdoor rooms
Most of the year is spent outside. The plan is being organised so that thresholds are soft and the outdoor rooms are as considered as the indoor ones.

Long tables and small retreats
Room for everyone at once — and somewhere to read alone an hour later.

Local stone, filtered light and planted shade
Materials from close by, shade made by structure and planting rather than by adding machinery.

A private family part and a future guest part
The house is studied as two related parts, so that family life and future guests can exist side by side without disturbing each other.

For us, Akri House is both deeply personal and deliberately collaborative. Johanne will live in the house she is helping to shape. As an architect and professional lead at Wood A+D, she brings the owners' everyday life directly into the design conversation — how the house should work for family, friends, quiet mornings, long tables and changing seasons.
The project is being developed together with Natasha Deliyianni and Yiorgos Spiridonos, co-founders of React Architects. Their work is rooted in Greece and in a close reading of the Cycladic landscape. The collaboration brings together two perspectives: intimate knowledge of how the house should be lived in, and local architectural experience of terrain, climate, light, materials and the Greek building process.
The aim is not to import a Norwegian house to Antiparos, or to reproduce a familiar island style. It is to create something specific to this place and to the people who will use it.
Johanne Taugbøl

Developing Akri House as both architect and co-owner, bringing the family's way of living and a Nordic perspective into the collaboration with React Architects.
Born in Høvik in 1980. She earned a Master of Arts in Architecture from Aarhus School of Architecture in 2009. From 2006 to 2007, she worked as an intern at C.F. Møller Architects Norway. In 2010, she founded Wood Arkitektur + Design, where she continues to work as an architect and the firm's professional lead. Her work ranges from private houses and holiday homes to transformations and larger residential projects, with an emphasis on creating spaces that support everyday life and strengthen the relationship between architecture, landscape, light and outdoor living. At Akri House, she works closely with Yiorgos Spiridonos and Natasha Deliyianni of React Architects, contributing both as an architect and as co-owner of the house.

Developing Akri House as part of React's research-led approach to contemporary architecture in Greece.
Born in Athens in 1968. She received a Bachelor of Architecture from N.T.U.A. in 1993 and completed her graduate studies in 1995 at the University of California Los Angeles (March II Program). She held a Teaching Assistant position at the March I Program, and from 1996 to 1997 she collaborated with architect Yiorgos Spiridonos on small private projects and architectural competitions. She was a partner of the Meta Architecture design team from 1997 to 2007. She is co-founder of React Architects since 2007, and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece since 1993.

The first lines
Before there was a plan, there were questions: how to meet two horizons, how to live between inside and outside, and how to give family and guests both company and privacy. These early diagrams were drawn by Johanne Taugbøl as part of the architectural brief to React Architects. They describe needs and relationships, not a finished design.
